How instruments find a second life
From use in Japan to a new player overseas.
A clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, or horn may begin its working life in a school band. It is played through rehearsals, concerts, and competitions. Then a student graduates, changes instrument, or stops playing. The instrument may sit unused, be traded in, pass through a dealer or domestic auction, and eventually return to the Japanese used market.
Returning to the market does not make an instrument ready for its next player. Woodwind pads, corks, keywork, brass valves, slides, and alignment may all need assessment. Even a carefully used instrument requires an item-by-item decision about condition, repair cost, and resale potential.
